Gold Dust washing powder turned racial caricature into a household sales tool. Its “Gold Dust Twins” appeared across packaging and advertising, pairing Black childhood imagery with slogans that transformed domestic labor into a cheerful commercial fantasy.
The Gold Dust Tee pulls that imagery out of the advertisement and asks a different question: when a stereotype helped build recognition , lifestyle and sell a product, who actually received the value it created?
