Before the imagery became a logo, it was an industry. Blackface minstrelsy turned racial caricature into profitable American entertainment, selling stereotypes through theater, advertising, music and merchandise.

Black performers such as Bert Williams and George Walker later worked inside that commercial system—reaching major white audiences while confronting the same caricatures the industry demanded. Top hats, white gloves and exaggerated performance became a visual code that survived long beyond the minstrel stage.

The Whoopty Doo Tee isolates that code and puts its history back into the conversation.
