Newport didn’t simply advertise cigarettes—it engineered a lifestyle around them. Campaigns repeatedly paired movement, touch, leisure and social connection with the brand, turning a product into a visual promise of belonging and pleasure.
The Soft Pack Tee isolates that advertising language from the cigarette itself. By pulling from campaign imagery where Black and white subjects could occupy the same manufactured fantasy, the design examines how advertising could picture equal footing while the world outside the frame remained far more complicated.
